Includes display of the 'Star of Canada' based upon a portion of the superstructure of a ship wrecked off Gisborne early 1900's. Includes an exhibition focusing upon James Cook's first landing in NZ - at Turanga in 1769.

Note:
Cook's landing place is marked by a flagpole (by the main harbour wharves). A statue of Cook overlooks the port from a hill a short drive out of the city (the statue apparently is based upon the statue of an Italian Nobleman who once graced 'Cooks Brewery' in Auckland and was thus erroneously thought to be a statue of Cook!)
